In West Columbia, South Carolina, the Human Resources department at Lexington School District 2 (Lex 2) sought an innovative way to support their teachers by creating a culture of reflective practice and professional growth. Although the district assigns a dedicated mentor teacher to every induction teacher, it faced challenges ensuring consistent, effective mentorship; reducing teacher observation-related stress; and fostering collaboration across schools. Lex 2’s goal was to create an environment where teachers felt supported, empowered, and equipped to reach their full potential, while also speeding up the onboarding process for new teachers. The HR department led the effort by leveraging GoReact to streamline mentorship and teacher development.
Lex 2 found that GoReact created a preferred space for teachers anxious about observations and classroom visitors. They established a practice of setting up the camera in advance, allowing students to get used to it. As a result, when the observed lesson took place, students were focused on the lesson and not distracted by new visitors or the presence of cameras. Teachers were also given the freedom to record multiple lessons, allowing them to showcase their best teaching moments. This no-risk observation method significantly reduced stress. Additionally, the videos became a portfolio of teaching practices for each individual teacher. By improving the observational and coaching abilities of mentors and instructional coaches using GoReact, the overall effectiveness of the teaching staff was enhanced.
GoReact delivered a significant return on time and substitute budget spend by streamlining teacher observations and eliminating the need for instructional coaches to travel between schools or rearrange schedules for in-person visits. Teachers no longer had to coordinate substitutes or miss valuable class time for coaching sessions. Instead, instructional coaches provided asynchronous feedback, allowing teachers to receive high-quality, targeted support on their own schedule without disrupting their day. This time savings also enabled coaches to support more teachers, increasing the overall impact of instructional coaching while reducing budget pressures on coaching initiatives. Additionally, video observations fostered collaboration across schools, making it easier for educators to share best practices and implement improvements more efficiently—creating a more connected and effective teaching community.
Lex 2 is already seeing measurable impacts from GoReact, from enhanced inter-rater reliability among mentors and coaches to a growing repository of best practices that all educators can access. They also discovered that the AI Assistant in GoReact provides a deeper level of feedback than what mentors typically have time for or think is sufficient. These results underscore Lex 2’s commitment to fostering a thriving teaching profession and equipping educators with the tools they need for success.
Lex 2 is dedicated to providing high-quality education and fostering an environment where students and educators can thrive. By adopting innovative tools like GoReact, the district continues to lead in educational excellence and teacher development.
