Get to Know the New AI Assistant in GoReact

This summer, we introduced the AI Assistant in GoReact, a tool designed to complement and support the irreplaceable role of educators. While AI is getting smarter, there’s no substitute for the expertise and personal connection that educators bring to the table. That’s why we developed the AI Assistant with a clear focus on enhancing learning and coaching.

By providing instant feedback, the AI Assistant encourages more practice, deeper self-reflection, and faster skill development, all of which help learners grow more effectively. This also frees up instructors, coaches, mentors, and supervisors to focus on delivering the personalized insights and guidance that only they can provide.

The AI Assistant is already making a difference across a wide range of disciplines, from Teacher Preparation and Communications to Behavioral Health, as well as in K12 teacher development. Whether providing immediate feedback to facilitate more self-reflection with teacher candidates or identifying filler words and misplaced pauses in a business class presentation, the AI Assistant is here to lighten your load and let you focus on what you do best. Since launching, we’ve received some great questions about this new feature, and in this blog, we’re excited to share answers to some of the most common ones.

How Does the AI Assistant Work?

GoReact’s AI Assistant is available in our GoReact Advanced package, and can be turned on by instructors for individual learning activities within the system. If the AI features are engaged for an activity, GoReact sends a participant’s video submission to our AI partner (AssemblyAI), who then processes the video according to GoReact’s instructions and returns the following:

  1. A time-stamped transcript
  2. Auto-generated AI metrics on the submission, and/or
  3. Any AI-generated markers and comments enabled by the instructor, depending on what AI features are configured for that activity.

How Reliable is the Feedback?

GoReact’s AI partner is among the highest rated for transcription accuracy. On the feedback side, while today’s AI models are incredibly powerful, they also are not mistake-free. The AI feedback in our system has been tested and iterated repeatedly in the beta process, and is continually evaluated and improved by GoReact’s product team.

AI comments and markers include two options for user feedback on the quality of those AI-generated items:

  • Any individual AI marker or AI comment in the feedback panel can be given a 👍 or 👎 by any user
    -OR-
  • It may be deleted entirely by a reviewer role or higher

Both actions are logged by GoReact and will be used to further refine our AI feedback models on an ongoing basis.

What Languages are Available for the AI Assistant?

Initially, the full AI Assistant features (including metrics, markers, and comments) are available in U.S. English only. Transcription-only is also available for video submissions in which the spoken language is Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch.

Subsequent product enhancements may include other languages, as well as expanded AI feature support in these additional languages.

How Does it Address Potential Bias?

Our AI partner’s large language models (LLM) for transcription and evaluation are trained on millions of conversations across a wide variety of participants in terms of demographics, groups, languages, and language mastery in order to be unbiased and inclusive in results.

Does it Affect Academic Integrity?

GoReact engages AI to assist in evaluation of participant-submitted work, including metrics and AI-generated feedback. The AI Assistant is not engaged at all in the participant’s creation of their own submissions into the platform, as one of our central focus areas is authentic assessment of skill performance.

Importantly, GoReact AI Assistant is not a standalone evaluative tool, nor is it intended to replace human interaction. It’s designed to “assist” in the skill development and assessment process, with ultimate grading and evaluation coming from a human evaluator.

What Security and Compliance Measures Does it Meet?

The only data GoReact uses for improving the AI Assistant is user interaction data, including user-initiated 👍 or 👎 or deletions on AI markers and feedback. Our data agreement with our AI partner specifies that our customer data that is processed for AI responses will NOT be stored or utilized to further train or enhance their models or offerings. All interactions are protected by contractual data security provisions as outlined below.

GoReact has explicit data protection agreements with our AI partner (as we do with all subprocessors) consistent with our data protection obligations to our customers. Unlike many AI providers, our AI partner is GDPR compliant and maintains an annual SOC II audit. See https://www.assemblyai.com/security for further details on our partner’s data security.

What Does it Cost?

The AI Assistant is included in our Advanced package, which also offers additional features not included in the Essentials package. A 60-day free trial is also available to new customers.

Let’s Keep Exploring

As we continue to explore the possibilities of AI in education, we’re excited about the impact the AI Assistant in GoReact is already having. It’s designed to lighten your load, streamline your workflow, and, most importantly, help your learners grow more effectively. We know that no technology can replace the invaluable role you play as an educator, but we hope the AI Assistant can be a helpful tool in your toolkit.

We’re grateful for the thoughtful questions and feedback we’ve received since launching this feature, and we look forward to seeing how it continues to evolve with your input.
