Susanna Gallor:

You’re not expected to be a mental health professional. I hope that’s not a take home message. You don’t have to step outside that instructor role too much, but what does it mean to be an instructor? What are you to these students? Are you more than just teaching them academic material, or do you want them to know that if they are feeling uncomfortable, if they are struggling, they can just at least come tell you and you will point them in the right direction, and that that’s normalized from the start, as Michael said, in your syllabus. You can just put a statement, just, I know we all struggle, we experience different things, please let me know and I will try to help you to whatever extent I can.
